revisiting movies of my youth

so because i haven't been able to move much what with my back and neck issues i've been revisiting some of the movies that i loved when i was a teenager. funny how sometimes i'm drawn back to these favourites of old.

i did go out last night to see this amazing man perform...almost gave away my ticket but i'm so glad i didn't...was able to sit and absorb the sheer joy of this performance...

If you haven't heard of Gurrumul before here is a taste:

diggy wit it update...and then some..

so the fence is under construction and destructo dog is not happy about it. actually the fence is quite hideous right now but necessary and i'm thinking i can train the creeping plants to creep through it and it won't look so much like the bondage garden as it currently does.

have had more than a week off work - experiencing the worst pain i've felt in years: neck out in two places, back out in two places, hips out and left jaw partially clamped shut - i swear it's the first time in 8 years that i was tempted to take drugs stronger than valium....which i didn't do fortunately. "working with books is a safety hazard" is my new slogan. and i have to say a big thanks to my ex for coming over and actually constructing the dog fence for me because i'm just beginning to be able to walk properly again let alone do anything of this magnatude
but i'm feeling much better and even able to sing along to trash music.

Thought i'd include a number here which goes to show how much better something painful is when it comes with a dance beat! hehe

gettin diggy wit it

so the beautiful space my flatmate created in our back yard, all the hard work put in and time spent totally redoing the garden beds has come crasing down, thanks to my fuzzy lovely i've renamed destructo dog. one third of the garden beds have now been dug up and all the beautiful new plants are no more. little shit!!! i don't want to fence in the garden but looks like i'll have to (leaving a little space just for him to dig up maybee)

was inspired to search for sexy men who do dreds well...yumm

and i just can't get enough of this song at the moment

gene pool fight back?

i remember when i was a kid i could count on one hand, actually didn't even use all my fingers, the number of redheads that i saw. This was a trend which i just came to take for granted the older i got.

lately though i've noticed a proliferation of redheads....just last week i think i saw more redheads then i have seen for years! and not just the bottle kind either, though i've never understood the fascination of dying your hair red unless it's postbox red, a color which i've been many times - i mean if it's gotta be red it might as well be red, right?

no the redheads i've seen around lately are all natural, and not only do they still stand out in a crowd but i'm thinking the gene pool has adapted or at least been infused because the new breed of redheads are, lets face it, sexy as hell!!

unfortunately that part of the gene pool passed me by....but at least i take solace if not heart from admiring the new breed!! fan the flame :)

i got in

Found out today that i was accepted into the masters program i applied for at university. I'm so very happy and a little scared. wasn't sure i'd get in and now the thought of a few more years of study is a little daunting but really i'm so excited!

Won't start studying until early next year so have a few months before my life changes. But i have another project which i'm going to undertake between now and then which in and of itself will, i hope, bring changes of another kind.

For me this means retraining and adding to the skill base i've been developing for the last two years and will allow me to plan a realistic exit strategy from the work i am currently doing.

This is turning out to be a great week!

two things made me smile today

1.
Saw this billboard and just had to take a photo...hadn't heard of the Homeless
World Cup before - if you wanna know more...

2.
the American people elect Obama President

....whilst i don't know what this song is about for Phil Collins, for me "in the air tonight" has always been associated with feelings of huge change, so for me: today it is appropriate...

bring on the purple

it's november and the jacarandas are out in bloom. Traditionally this sight is a reminder to students that end of year exams are upon them. For me the beautiful purple signifies the end of the year is near and a time for reinvention of self is coming.

after all my partying of late i hit a slump yesterday. It could have been the sugar crash after indulging in the first chosen family get together breakfast for the season: whereby we consume copious quantities of pancakes with beautiful fresh fruit, ice cream and maple syrup. However, i think it is more that time feels as though it is getting away from me.

so i curled up on the couch and indulged in some dvd watching - a couple of duds later and i put on "walk like a man: blood sweat & queers". This docco follows the Sydney Convicts and the San Francisco Fog on their preparations for the Bingham Cup. This is from a couple of years ago and it is a great insight into the the world of queer rugby.

The start of november also means that australian idol will be drawing to an end soon. Many of my favourites have gone but one remains. i really hope Sophie gets to record now that she's off the show. I just loved her and i think i could easily see myself buying her music. I can't say that with many people who have competed in idol over the years. I wouldn't be surprised at all if Teal comes through to win but my favourite of the men from the beginning has been Luke and i would love to see him go through.

i also think my slump is due to increased anticipation over the results of the US elections. this topic filled much of our discussion yesterday and i think concensus was that the world is on the edge of a potentially huge cultural shift...
- but the synic in me wont alow me to wait with baited breath...

Til Tuesday/Wednesday...depending which continent you're on...

all hallows welcome to november

Last nights escapades at Red Rattler were fantastic! Dark Carnivale was ticking along nicely...until the police came and shut it down. The performances were fantastic and the crowd was wonderfully mixed with many dressed to the nines in their all hallows finery. The Kingpins (pictured above) were of course incredible...particularly loved the dolly parton number hehe

I think i've posted this song before but i couldn't resist to revisit it for its haunting sound...appropriate for the night that was had: rooms for the memory
